Obituary

Dorothy Shomo

DOVER – Dorothy “Dot or Dotty" Shomo, 79, entered into rest October 31, 2026, in Harrisburg, while surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Robert “Bob” P. Shomo, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.

Born December 18, 1946, in Danvers, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Donald E. and Mildred S. (Littlefield) MacGregor.

Dot graduated in 1965 from Strong Vincent High School in Erie and soon after met the love of her life and future husband, Bob, while he was attending Gannon College. They had been inseparable ever since the day they first met.

She cherished her grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as "Grammy". They looked forward to spending time with her playing games, watching movies, shopping, and baking……they claimed everything always tasted better at Grammy’s. There was a playful competition of strategic brown-nosing, teasing, and bragging, between all the grandchildren as to who was Grammy's favorite. She would masterfully play along. She took great joy in being a part of their lives and watching them grow into young adults.

She had a green thumb and loved planting and tending to her flowers and making her yard and house a beautiful and welcoming place.

Her passion for Americana and Folk Art from stoneware pottery, drawings and prints, needlework, baskets, and hand carved wooden sculptures, some of them made from her own hands, were displayed proudly throughout her home.

Dot additionally enjoyed the company of her tight knit group of friends, The Tioga Babes, whether it was travelling, shopping, or just getting together for lunch. They had good times, shared laughter, and created endless memories. Even though they were separated by hundreds of miles, she maintained a "forever friendship" with her childhood friend and classmate Sylvia (MacDougall) St. George.

She is survived by her two sons, Brian P. Shomo and wife, Carrie of Harrisburg and Mark F. Shomo and wife, Erin of York; four grandchildren, Hunter, Meghan, Madison and Jacob; two sisters, Susan Raimy and husband, Gary of Erie; and Betty Myford, wife of the late, James, of Grove City; and her beloved dog, Sarah. Dot was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Donald A. MacGregor and his wife, Cathy.

Following cremation, services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.
