Joanne L. Wintermyer

DOVER – Joanne L. (Howard) Wintermyer, 89, entered into rest Monday afternoon, October 12, 2026 at her home.

Born June 26, 1937 in York, Joanne was a daughter of the late Curvin and Irene (Quickel) Howard.

Joanne graduated from Dover Area High School in 1955.  Later in life, she went to nursing school and became an LPN who was employed by York Hospital and Apple Hill Medical Center.  Following retirement, she worked part-time for Weis Markets in Dover.

Joanne enjoyed spending time at the beach, especially in Ocean City, Maryland, a place she dearly loved.  One of her greatest joys was supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their sporting events and cheering them on.  She treasured spending time with her family at gatherings, making memories and sharing special moments with those she loved. Joanne also enjoyed playing bingo.  She was a breast cancer survivor.

Joanne is survived by her four children, Wayne E. Latchaw, Jr. and wife Deborah, Cindy L. Crawford and husband, Michael, Lorrie J. Shumaker and husband, Randy "Amos" and Thomas H. Latchaw and wife, Denise, all of Dover; nine grandchildren, Cale, Chris, Angie, Jessica, Miranda, Tyler, Tessa, Justin and Aly; 14 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Curvin Howard, Jr., Nancy Murphy, Judy Merkert and Karen Krout, all of Dover.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband and the father of her children, Wayne E. Latchaw, Sr.; a sister, Lois Jacobs; and four brothers, Ronald Howard, Sr., Spurgeon Howard, James Howard and Jack Stambaugh.

Following cremation, services will be private at the convenience of the family.  Burial will take place in Suburban Memorial Gardens, Dover.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.
