Obituary

Lois A. Eckard

DOVER – Lois Ann Eckard, 84, entered into eternal rest at 2:06 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Pappus House in Thomasville. She was the beloved wife of the late Merle C. Eckard and the cherished companion of the late James M. Yealey.

Born on October 25, 1941, in Dover, Lois was the daughter of the late Lester and Pearl (Wallick) Hollerbush.

A lifelong resident of the Dover community, Lois was known for her strong work ethic, generous spirit, and genuine love for people. A 1957 graduate of Manchester High School, she built a career centered on serving others. She worked for Investors Loan Corporation, managed restaurants for Jay's Markets, and spent many years waitressing at local establishments, including the Hawks Club, Lafayette Club, and Elks Club, where she made countless friends through her warm smile and welcoming personality. She later found great fulfillment as a paraprofessional with the Dover Area School District, dedicating more than 20 years to helping students before retiring in 2023. Never one to sit still, Lois continued working during the summers for the York Revolution, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.

Lois was a devoted member of Dover Bethany Global Methodist Church. She generously gave her time as a volunteer at numerous community events, including the annual Dover Firemen's Carnival, where she could often be found cleaning tables or assisting with Bingo. She also volunteered at the York Fair, always willing to lend a helping hand and serve her community

Lois also found joy in cheering on the Baltimore Orioles and following auto racing, but her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family. She treasured every opportunity to celebrate milestones and making memories with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Gregory M. Eckard and his wife, Lisa, of Dover; her daughter, Michelle Y. Dietz and her husband, Terry, of Dover; her stepson, Phillip Eckard, of Maryland; her four beloved grandchildren, Garrett Dietz, Sophia Dietz, Aaron Eckard, and Emily Eckard; and her brother, Samuel Hollerbush.

In addition to her husband, companion, and parents, Lois was preceded in death by her brother, James Hollerbush.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Lois' funeral services on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Dover Bethany Global Methodist Church, 4510 Bull Rd., Dover.
