Arlene M. Shaffer
DOVER - Arlene Marie Shaffer, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at WellSpan York Hospital with her beloved family by her side. She was the loving wife of Kenneth D. Shaffer and they spent a beautiful 71 years together, traveling to many places.
Born June 25, 1934 in Dover, Arlene was the daughter of the late Harry H. and Annie M. (Jacobs) Leib.
She graduated from Dover High School in 1951 and devoted herself to creating a warm and loving home, where her kindness and compassion touched all who knew her. Throughout the years, Arlene also contributed her talents beyond the home—working at Blacks Hosiery in York and Grandview Golf Course and later serving as secretary to her husband during his tenure as Dover Township Tax Collector.
Arlene was a life member of Salem U.C.C. in Dover where she visited the homebound members for a number of years, helped with food preparation for funeral luncheons, etc., and was a part of the altar guild. She was also a member of the Western Democratic Club and Dover Democratic Club.
Arlene enjoyed bowling and was an avid quilter, proudly earning a Grand Champion ribbon at the York Fair. She also loved to cook, sew and crochet. Among her many talents, she was especially celebrated for her homemade coconut cream pies, which were cherished by all who had the pleasure of tasting them.
She was the beloved matriarch of her family, and her legacy of generosity, joyful spirit, and deep love for family continues to shine through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Arlene is survived by her husband; two daughters, Judy A. Wire and husband, David and Renee Y. Smith and husband, Steven, all of Dover; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen M. Shaffer; great granddaughter, Lily; step-great grandson, Vance; and two brothers, Arthur A. Leib and Floyd E. Leib.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Arlene’s funeral at 11 a.m. and the viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025 at Salem U.C.C., 2705 W. Canal Rd., Dover.
