Barbara J. Rains

DOVER – Barbara J. Rains, 76, entered into rest at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at WellSpan York Hospital.  She was the wife of the late Ronald A. Rains who died on November 19, 2012.  They were married for 43 years.

Born September 2, 1948 in Baltimore, MD, Barbara was a daughter of the late Edward A. and Elizabeth J. (Webster) Lurz, Sr.

She worked as a reading specialist for Southern Middle School in Glen Rock for 20 years and later worked as a pay roll clerk for Alternatives Unlimited in Baltimore, MD.

Barbara enjoyed baking cakes and was very creative in her craft.  She was also very artistic, enjoyed painting and had a flair for design.  Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael C. Rains and wife, Kolene M. (Knisley) Rains of York and Bradford A. Rains of Dover; two granddaughters, Cassidy E. Rains of York, Emilee Q. (Richardson) Miller and husband, Lucas of Harrisburg; grandson, Alexander D. Richardson of York; a brother, Edward A. Lurz, Jr. and wife, Christine A. of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Steven M. Lurz.

Barbara’s wishes were no services.  Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
