Bonita E. Sponsler
YORK – Bonita E. (Gable) Sponsler, 71, entered into rest at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at her granddaughter’s home.
Born August 9, 1953 in York, Bonita was a daughter of the late Lewis E. and Dolores V. (Wilson) Gable, Sr.
She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1971 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from York College. Bonita had 25 years of service for York Hospital where she worked in the Radiology Department as a supervisor. She enjoyed writing and poetry and loving going to the beach.
Bonita was a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 20 years, where she touched countless lives through her compassion and support. As a sponsor and mentor, she guided many on their journey to recovery, always offering a listening ear and a kind heart. Bonita found joy in helping others in any way she could. While cooking wasn't her favorite pastime, she had a true passion for baking—especially her beloved carrot cake, strawberry pie, and pumpkin pie, which were always made with love.
Bonita is survived by her sons, Gabriel Sponsler and wife, Cynthia and Devin Sponsler, all of York; granddaughter, Brooklyn Sponsler of Hanover; great-grandson, Lukas Slapp; three sisters, Linda Becker of Hanover, Sheila Krug of Abbottstown and Teresa Smith of Spring Grove; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Derrick Sponsler; brother, Dennis McMaster; and former husband, Donald C. Sponsler.
Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bonita’s memorial service at 12 noon and the visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Officiating will be the Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier, pastor of Christ U.C.C. in Jefferson.
