Carl S. Fry, Sr.
DOVER – Carl S. Fry, Sr., 96, entered into rest at 5:53 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at his home. He was the husband of the late JoAnne A. (Quigley) Fry.
Born May 31, 1928 in Annville, he was a son of the late John B. and Martha B. (Shiffer) Fry.
Carl graduated from Annville Cleona High School in 1946 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1952. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Carl retired from the PA Department of General Services in 1990 and was previously employed by Buchart Horn and Noonan Engineering. He taught Math part-time at Penn State York for 10 years in the evenings.
Carl was a member of Dover U.C.C. where he had been treasurer and served on consistory for a number of years. He was also a member of the Geritol Golf League at Grandview Golf Course. Carl volunteered for over 30 years with the AARP tax program of the York County Area Agency on Aging and over 20 years with Family Clothes Tree. He was an avid golfer and was golf professional, Sue Ginter’s, long time caddy in the Christa McAuliffe Future Golf Tournament held in York. Carl also enjoyed playing Bridge.
He is survived by his five children, Tracey A. Knouse and husband, Michael of York, Carl S. Fry, Jr. of Dover, Susan E. McNeely and husband, Michael of York, Scott Q. Fry of Baton Rouge, LA and Heather E. Thomas and husband, Jeffrey of Dover; and four grandchildren, Ryan and wife, Katrina and their children, Colette and Rosalyn, Shannon, Rachel and husband Jacky and Aaron and wife, Brooke, who have a baby on the way. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Carl’s funeral at 11 a.m. and the visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover, where veteran’s honors will be presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Officiating will be Pastor Frank Miller.
