Charles C. Drawbaugh
YORK - Charles Drawbaugh, A lifelong teacher, passed away on Friday December 9, 2022 at the age of 98.
During WWII he was a combat Medic in the Southwest Pacific Area with the 506th Medical Collecting Company, which was a unit of the 158th Combat Team. The team was deployed in the Philippines and New Guinea. He received 2 bronze stars with commendations.
Charles attended Mt. Royal Elementary school and is a graduate of Dover High School 1943, Hershey Community College 1948, and the Pennsylvania State University with his Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees. He taught at Hegins and Dover High Schools in Pennsylvania and Rutgers University in New Jersey
He enjoyed writing and published a number of textbooks and professional articles including The History of The Mt. Royal Church and was a major author and Editor of A History of Dover Township, York County. He also served as the advisor to over 100 doctoral dissertations.
Among the honors awarded to him were the Honorary Keystone Farmer Degree, the Honorary Garden State Farmer Degree and the Honorary American Farmer Degree. He is a life member of the National FFA alumni Association.
Charles, and his wife of many years Ruth, enjoyed extensive travel. She predeceased him in 2004.
Charles leaves behind; his daughter Patsy Hartnett and her husband Jim, his son Dean Drawbaugh and wife Phyllis, a grandson Graeme Hartnett and his wife Jennifer, a grand-daughter Kerry Abraham and her husband Tyler and their son Echo. Charles also leaves behind many family and friends including his “Ag Boys” and his “girls” who were his care givers and his family for 7 years. He will be missed by many who enjoyed learning life’s lessons from this kind and giving man.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Charles’ funeral at 10 a.m. and the viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Mt. Royal U.M. Church, 6451 Old Carlisle Road, Dover, PA 17315. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover, where veteran’s honors will be presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Sandra Kraft.
