Charles J. Harlacher, Jr.

York - Charles J. Harlacher, Jr., 93 years, 10 months, of York, passed away, Friday, August 27, 2021, at his home in York surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Phyllis (Miller) Harlacher who he married 74 years ago on February 15, 1947.

Charles was born November 26, 1927, in Dover and was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Bechtel) Harlacher of Dover.

After serving in the United States Navy during WW II, aboard the U.S.S. Helena, Charlie returned home and married his longtime sweetheart, Phyllis. Following his military service, Charlie began his career as a self-employed interior decorator and later worked for M. L. Wehler Decorating Co., retiring in 1989 after 42 years of service. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing, dancing and spending time with his beloved family and friends at the cabin in Potter County. He was a member of the Church of the Open Door in York where he was a founding member of the church. He was also a member of the Dover Rod and Gun Club, White Rose Polka, Syncopation Dance Group and he volunteered at the Strand Capitol Appell Center for the Performing Arts for over 20 years.

In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Charles was the proud father of two sons, Terry L. Harlacher and his wife, Rosanne of Alton, NH., and Timothy C. Harlacher and his wife Beth of Windsor, PA.; 8 grandchildren, Steven Harlacher and wife, Melanie, Scot Harlacher and wife Lynne, Lyndsay Roach and husband Clay, Toni Watson and husband Perry, Lori Mincemoyer and husband Ryan, Judy Loto and husband Frank, Jane Livingston and husband Dwayne, Timothy Bell, Trina Bell, and 18 great grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Clair Harlacher, Glenwood Harlacher and Carl Harlacher and his sisters, Margaret Gettys, Virginia Long and Roseanna Dunavin.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to his viewings on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 47 North Queen Street, Dover, and Thursday, September 2, 2021, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Court, York. His service will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in York. The York County Veterans will provide military honors at the graveside service.
