Charlotte J. Snyder

DOVER – Charlotte J. (Zeigler) Snyder passed away at 5:17 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the age of 91.  She was the wife of the late Lee Russell Snyder and at his death they celebrated 40 years together.  Charlotte moved to Country Meadows of York in 2019.

Her parents were the late Elwood and Naomi Zeigler of Dover.

Charlotte graduated from Dover High School in 1951 as Salutatorian of her class.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Millersville State Teacher’s College in 1955 where she was editor of the College yearbook.  She received a degree at Western Maryland College in Administration/Supervision in 1958.  Pennsylvania State College gave her a certificate in Reading Supervising while continuing studies toward a Doctorate Degree.

Charlotte was employed by Central School District of York for 31 years, beginning as an elementary teacher, reading specialist and reading supervisor for K-12 grades.

Upon retirement in 1986, she was a substitute teacher in Dover Area School District and volunteered at Dover Area Community Library.

She, with her family, bought, sold and managed real estate.

Charlotte and her late husband enjoyed fishing and being a vendor at various fishing shows.  They enjoyed fishing trips and spending time with family and friends.  They were both members of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dover.  Charlotte was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (an honorary society); PSEA; PSERS; and YCPASR.

She and her late husband, Lee, were charter contributors to building the new Heritage Senior Center of Dover.

She leaves behind a cherished brother, Donald E. Zeigler; two nieces, Angie Yingling and Dr. Kerry Zeigler; and a great nephew, Patrick Haag.  Four step-children also remain: Desirée Vargas, Leslie Black, Shane and Lance Snyder.

Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover, is serving Charlotte’s family.  A private graveside service celebrating her life will be held at Suburban Memorial Gardens in Dover.  The Rev. Abigail Leese, pastor of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlotte’s name to Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9 N. Main St., Dover, PA 17315; Heritage Senior Center, 3700-4 Davidsburg Rd., Dover, PA 17315; or your favorite charity.
