Cheryl C. Hegberg

YORK, PA – Cheryl C. (Gifford) Hegberg, 78, entered into rest at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Wellspan York Hospital.  She was the loving wife of the late James C. Hegberg. The couple celebrated 47 years of marriage on April 26, 2022.

Born May 26, 1944, in Baltimore, MD, Cheryl was the daughter of the late Howard F. Gifford and Clara V. (Decker) Gifford.  While in high school she was a head majorette and later was an instructor.

Cheryl enjoyed knitting, ceramics, singing, playing guitar, and spending time with her family.  Cheryl also enjoyed watching football with her family.  When not with her family, she was very active within the church.  She was a deaf interpreter and participated in cantatas and mission work.  She also traveled with her husband and daughters doing ministry with puppetry and singing.


Cheryl is survived by Michael Gifford, David Gifford, Charles Hegberg and wife, (Patricia), Jeffrey Hegberg and wife, (Diane), Mark Hegberg and wife, (Elisabeth), Tara Hegberg, Jehan McNair and husband (Daniel), and Anjali Hegberg, and seven grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Hegberg and brother, John Gifford.

A memorial service will be held at Hanover Valley Presbyterian Church, 113 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA 17331 at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover, PA is serving her family.
