David G. Gardner
YORK – David G. Gardner, 67, unexpectedly entered into rest at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2020 at his home in York, PA. He was the loving husband of Jean (Patz) Gardner. The couple celebrated 30 years of marriage on December 30, 2019.
Born April 14, 1953 in Cleveland, OH, he was a son of George and Merida (Harrington) Gardner of Naples, FL.
David earned a bachelor’s degree in English from University of Minnesota.
He worked in sales for Kendall Motor Oil (Witco) and as Western Sales Manager for BASF. Following early retirement in 1999, he also worked in motorcycle sales in Toledo and York, as store manager for Jos. A. Bank, and most recently, was a tipstaff at the York County Courthouse. He spent many happy hours at Memory Lane Sweets in downtown York.
David enjoyed golfing, motorcycles, astronomy, space, music, opera, attending live opera performances, reading, neatness, and tending to his yard and pond. He was pleased to have attended three live performances of Luciano Pavarotti in his prime. He loved his family dearly and spent much time teasing and laughing with them. David was a smart, kind, loving, and good man.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two daughters, Kelly (Paul) Chin of Frederick, MD and Kim (Steve) Hemstreet of Martinsburg, WV; five grandchildren, Saya and Nora Chin, Hailey and Savannah Davis, and Marissa Hemstreet; a sister, Chris (Duane) Franek of Prior Lake, MN; a brother, John (Tammy) Gardner of Elko, MN; father-in-law, Bernard Patz, Sr. of Fredonia, NY; two brothers-in-law, Bernard Patz, Jr. (Marie) of Leesburg, FL and Mark Patz of Fredonia, NY; aunt Kathy Harrington of Cleveland, OH; uncle Ron (Irene) Gardner of Dickinson, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia McCabe; a nephew, Jason McCabe; mother-in-law, Jean (Ark) Patz, and uncle Michael Harrington. Bruce Ludwig, Paul Chin, and Barry Hammacher were his most frequent golf partners as well as being close friends.
Following cremation, a funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, June 20, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 231 South Beaver St, York, PA. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, PA is serving his family.
