Erma P. Dentler
DOVER – Erma P. (Gross) Dentler, 96, met her Savior Saturday, October 28, 2023. She was the wife of the late Ray L. Dentler, Sr.
Born June 23, 1927, in Jackson Township, York County, Erma was a daughter of the late Lester M. and Sarah K. (Eyster) Gross.
She was a homemaker and longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church Dover, where she served in numerous leadership capacities. More recently, she attended West York Church of the Brethren. Along the journey she was a poll worker, Republican Committee Woman, Deputy Sherriff, President of WCTU, Super Grandma, card club champion and friend/supporter of so many along the way.
Erma is survived by two sons, Fredrick E. Dentler of Henderson, NV; Janna J. (John) Dentler and wife, Cheryl of Dillsburg; two daughters, Pennie L. Jacobs and husband, Warren “Ed” of Thomasville and Nena M. Sweigard and husband, Rick of Lexington Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Mearl Gross of Dover; and a sister, Rosara Harlacher of Dover. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ray L. Dentler, Jr.; sisters, Dorothy Westerhold, Nettie Alverta Mitzel and Anna Crone; and brothers, Ray, Dean and Clair Gross.
Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Erma’s memorial service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at the Grace U.M. Church, 85 York St., Wellsville, PA. Officiating will be John Dentler and Pastor Dick Godfrey, interim pastor of West York Church of the Brethren. Arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Harvest of Blessing” food bank, 3920 Country Drive, Dover PA 17315; OR West York Church of the Brethren, 5101 Darlington Rd., York PA 17408.
