Fern A. Collins

DOVER – Fern A. Collins, 97, entered into rest on Sunday morning, December 26, 2021 at Normandie Ridge.  She was the wife of the late Robert E. Collins.  They were married 54 years.

Born October 1, 1924 in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Charles P. and Edith M. (Sweitzer) Toomey.

Fern graduated from Dover High School and was a homemaker and seamstress.  She was a member of Dover Bethany U.M. Church and was a lifetime member of Union Fire & Hose Co. #1, Dover, Ladies Auxiliary.  She served as the Grand Marshall of Dover Borough’s 250th Anniversary Parade in 2014.

Fern is survived by four daughters, Darlene R. Meals of Florida, Deborah J. Evanko of Florida, Dawn E. Boyette of Georgia and Nadine A. Becker of Dover; three sons, Andre “Andy” B. Collins of York, Jan A. Collins of Virginia and Michael J. Collins of Dover; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne C. Harlacker; four sons, Scott L., Keith R., Steven D. and Timothy L. Collins; a sister, Pauline Goodwin; and a brother, C. Woodrow Toomey.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Fern’s funeral at 2 p.m. and the viewing from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Dover Bethany U.M. Church, 4510 Bull Rd., Dover.  Burial will follow in Dover Union Cemetery.  Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Salvatore Buonocore and the Rev. Dr. Eddie D.D. Miller, visitation pastor of St. Paul U.M. Church, Manchester.  Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover is serving her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Fire & Hose Co. #1 Ladies Auxiliary, 30 E. Canal St., Dover, PA 17315.
