Gary E. Gross

DOVER – Gary E. Gross, 75, entered into rest on December 14, 2024 at his home, surrounded by family.

He was the loving husband of Deborah “Deb” (Seifert) Gross.  The couple celebrated 52 years of marriage on April 29, 2024.

Born June 20, 1949 in York, he was the son of the late Dale E. and Irene (Cummings) Gross and grandson of Walter and Cora (Sunday) Gross.

In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his son, Thaddeus A. Gross and wife, Tina; daughter, Shannon J. Swartz and husband, Michael; his sister, Gloria Hess and husband, David; and niece, Lisa Stevenson and husband, John.  Three step grandchildren, Julia, Jacque and Nick.

While a youngster, he spent many summer days working with his grandfather on the family farm and listening to his grandmother tell him stories about her childhood.  Also, spending Christmas vacations with his cousins playing ice hockey on the pond.

He was a 1968 graduate of Dover Area High School, where he participated in Dover’s wrestling program and earned many trophies and awards.

He retired from S.A.S, Inc. after 36 years as the Fleet Manager.  He enjoyed preparing the Sheffer Beer Distributing truck fleet to participate in several truck shows at Englishtown, New Jersey and Delaware, winning many awards.  He also assisted with organizing the South Central Pennsylvania Truck and Trade Shows held at the York Fair Grounds in the 1980’s.

After retirement his hobby was rebuilding engines and restoring cars.  Summer weekends he could be found at car shows admiring everyone’s cars.  He was very happy to earn quite a few trophies for his cars.

He attended St. David’s ECC regularly until his illness.
