George W. Ross

DOVER – George William “Bill” Ross, 91, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 2026 at Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Harrisburg.  He was the loving husband of Robin L. (Drawbaugh) Ross with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.  They wed on August 31, 1957.

Born December 13, 1934 in York, Bill was a son of the late C. Harry and Margie (Livingston) Ross.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sarah A. Lindsay(Keith) of Dover; four grandchildren, Jessica Lindsay Cree(Zach), Rachel Lindsay Burke(Matthew), Joshua Lindsay and Rebekah Lindsay Bortner(Abraham); two great grandchildren, Rosh and Micaiah Cree; two sisters, Julie Strope and Jane Downton, both of NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Robert Ross; and two sisters, Janet Smith and Jean Neuman.

Bill graduated from York High School in 1952 and earned a B.S. in Education from Millersville University in 1961.  He went on to earn his Master's degree in Education from Lehigh University.

Bill taught in numerous school districts, including: East Stroudsburg, Centennial, Bermudian Springs, West York and York City.  He retired following over 30 years in teaching and guidance counseling.

He served six years at Christian School of York as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

Bill was a charter member of Church of the Open Door where he served in various capacities, including: teaching Sunday School, Boys Brigade, Elder Board, singing in the Senior Choir, greeter and parking attendant.

His interests not only included construction and woodworking, but also hunting, fishing and especially serving in short-term mission trips to Ukraine where his building talents were used, as well as his leadership.

Following private burial in Shiloh Union Cemetery, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the service to celebrate Bill's life at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Court, York.  Officiating will be Pastor Robert Riedy.
