Gloria J. Markle
DOVER – Gloria J. Markle, 83, entered into rest at 6:49 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at WellSpan York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gerald L. Markle, to whom she was married for over 62 years.
Born August 3, 1937 in Codorus Township, she was a daughter of the late Clinton and Pauline (Bortner) Krebs.
Gloria graduated from Spring Grove Area High School. She was a homemaker and member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Dover.
In addition to spending time with her family, Gloria loved going to church picnics to listen to local community bands and eat ice cream. Gerald and Gloria enjoyed camping for many years and were members of Penn Coachman Association. As her grandchildren got older, you would find her at their events cheering for them. She and Gerald were also members of the West Manchester Mall Walkers and attended many of their bus trips, especially to the casinos.
Gloria is survived by a daughter, Carol R. Saylor and husband, Matthew of York; two sons, Bradley D. Markle and wife, Mary of York and Phillip L. Markle of Mechanicsburg; and four grandchildren, Tanner and Lindsey Markle and Rebekah and Joshua Ware. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine L. Ware.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gloria’s viewing from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 9 N. Main St., Dover. Those in attendance will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Her graveside service will begin at approximately 12:45 p.m. in St. Jacob’s Stone Church Cemetery, 5152 Stone Church Rd., Glenville. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Abby Leese. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is serving her family.
