Gordon Gladfelter Obituary

Gordon P. Gladfelter

DOVER – Gordon “Gordie” Paul Gladfelter, born December 9, 1937, he was 87 years old.  He was surrounded by his family as he went to meet his savior, Jesus Christ.

Gordie is survived by Bernice (Hartman) Sharp-Gladfelter, his wife of 23 years; his three daughters, Daeon Blessing(Ricki) of Windsor, Pamela Doolittle(Dr. Daniel) of Carbondale, IL and Cynthia Lefever(Daryl) of College Grove, TN; step-children, Dodie Stabley(Tim) of York and Duane Sharp(Sharon) of York; his brother, Lloyd “Bill” Gladfelter; and several nieces and nephews.  He was Papa to 11 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild.

Gordon was the son the late Mabel (Campbell) and Lloyd Gladfelter and was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Rockelman and a niece, Anne Barshinger.

Gordie worked at the Pattern Shop in York and was a substitute teacher.

He worked at Caterpillar for 28 ½ years before retiring, followed by his service with Rabbit Transit.

Gordon had a love for sports, playing softball for the church and Caterpillar leagues and was a big Oriole fan.  He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting with his Dad, brother and nephew, camping and he enjoyed the beach, especially the Outer Banks, which he visited every year with his wife, Bernie.

What meant the most to him was supporting his girls, who he loved very much, by always enthusiastically cheering for them at their sporting events, along with supporting them in every aspect of their lives.  His greatest accomplishment was making sure they were grounded in their faith and their love for Jesus.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gordon’s memorial service at 11 a.m. and the visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover.  Interment will take place privately in York Road Cemetery, Hanover.  Officiating will be his nephew, Rod Gladfelter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Washington United Brethren Church, 710 Copenhaffer Rd., York, PA 17404.
