Harry Strouse, Jr. Obituary

Harry Preston Strouse, Jr.

YORK - Harry Preston Strouse, Jr., 87, of Dover, went to heaven to be rejoined with his wife, Nedrale and his youngest son, Michael on Monday, January 29th, 2024.  Harry and Nedra would have been married 66 years this year, on May 10, 2024.  Harry and Nedra went to the same high school together, and it was there that they met.

Born June 30, 1936 in Sunbury, he was a son of the late Harry P. and Dorothy (Marks) Strouse, Sr.

Harry attended Priestly Elementary School, named after the man (Joseph Preistley) who discovered oxygen.  He graduated from Northumberland High School in 1954; some seventy (70) years ago from Northumberland High School.  After high school, he went into the United States Army, where he served from September of 1955 until October 1957.  He received an honorable release as Specialist Third Class (E-3).

Harry was gentle and kind; a man who thoroughly enjoyed nature.  He was an avid outdoorsman, most happy when he was hunting or fishing, or at the very least, able to tell stories of his outdoor adventures to others!  He was a member of the Yellow Breeches Anglers, Cross Forks Sportsmen Club, the Northumberland Hook and Ladder Company, the Vikings Club and Dover Fish and Game.

He is survived by his sister, Suzanne ( Frank) and his children, of whom he was very proud of: daughter, Brenda and her  husband, Mike (Dover, PA), son,  Stephen, and his wife, Wayzeta (Manahawkin, NJ), and son, Jeffrey and his wife, Carol (Northumberland, PA). He loved visiting with and hearing about the adventures from each of his six grandchildren: Joshua (Christina), Jeremy (Jessica), Kelsey (Stephen), Ross, Ella and Zachary (Nori).  His great- grandchildren were the apple of his eye: Nathaniel, Ben, McKenna, Kennedy, Izaiah, Rosaleigh and Cruz.  They all made him smile.

His Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover, PA. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. the same day, at the funeral home.  Pastor Tanya Brubaker of Calvary United Methodist Church, York, PA, will be officiating.  His burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens, Dover, PA.
