James C. Hegberg
YORK - James “Jim” C. Hegberg, 87, entered into rest at 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at his home. He was the loving husband of Cheryl C. (Gifford) Hegberg. The couple celebrated 47 years of marriage on April 26, 2022.
Born May 23, 1935, in Union, IL, James was the son of the late Irving R. and Esther E. (Fox) Hegberg. He served and retired from the U.S. Air Force with a tour in Vietnam. After his military service, James worked in the defense industry and was a team member on the NASA Apollo-Soyuz mission. Following his retirement, he became a minister.
James enjoyed photography, singing, and watching college football and the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles with family. James also was an avid participant in sports, he played basketball, softball, baseball, and football when he was in high school. He was proud of his Midwest heritage and his service to his country and was always willing to help anyone in need. James and Cheryl were foster and adoptive parents.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by nine children, David Hegberg, Julie Workman and husband, (Scott), Charles Hegberg and wife, (Patricia), Jeffrey Hegberg and wife, (Diane), Mark Hegberg and wife, (Elisabeth), Tara Hegberg, Jehan McNair and husband, (Daniel), and Anjali Hegberg; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda Lawrence; infant brother, Tommy Hegberg; and three sisters, Joyce Schmidt, Dorothy Culver, and Nova Johnson.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at Hanover Valley Presbyterian Church, 113 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA 17331 at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 20, 2022. Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover, PA is serving his family.
