James D. Weir, Sr.
DOVER – James D. Weir, Sr., 89, went to be with his Lord & Savior at 4:19 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Eva Mae (Chronister) Weir. The couple observed 72 years of marriage on January 16, 2025.
Born August 10, 1935 in York, James was a son of the late Charles W. and Pauline E. (Shenberger) Weir.
He attended Northern High School and founded Weir Kitchens in 1976. James previously worked as a foreman for Gettysburg Shoe Company in Dillsburg and then owned Jim’s Supermarket in Wellsville. He was a member of Harmony Grove Community Church in Dover where he had been a board member and treasurer for a number of years.
James had his own antique store as a result of his passion for antiques and tractors. He also enjoyed going to auction on Fridays and Saturdays. He was a member of York County Builders Association.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by seven children: Mindy Jones and husband, Keith of Sumterville, FL, James D. Weir, Jr. and wife, Debra of Dover, Jeff Weir and wife, Ann of Waxhaw, NC, Greg Weir and wife, Cindy of Wellsville, Tim Weir and wife, Sherry of East Berlin, Lisa Myers and husband, Scott of East Berlin and Mark Weir and wife, Lisa of Mount Wolf; 23 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren with two more on the way; one great great grandchild with two more on the way; and a sister, Patricia Crane of York. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert E. Weir, Sr.; and sister, Joyce Beck.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend James’ graveside service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025 in Salem Union Cemetery, 2705 W. Canal Rd., Dover. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Crosley. Arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Grove Community Church, 6390 Harmony Grove Rd., Dover, PA 17315.
