Jay W. Helsel III
DILLSBURG – Jay W. Helsel III, 86, formerly of Dover and Altoona, passed at home surrounded by his children at 9:06 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023.
Born on May 21, 1936 in Vinco, PA, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Buck Helsel.
Jay attended Hollidaysburg High School and Grove City College. He enjoyed playing football at high school and college.
Jay worked at his family business, Helsel Hardware, in Altoona, PA until 1972. Jay was co-owner of J & W Hardware in Dover, PA.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955-1959.
Jay was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time at his family farm in Potter County.
Jay is survived by five children, Cindy Grinnell, Anna Helsel, Beth Livingston, Jay Helsel IV and wife, Pam, and Mike Helsel and wife, Chelsea; ten grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Jay was known as “Pap” to his grandchildren. He shared his love of the outdoors with all of them.
Following cremation, there will be a time of visitation with his family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
