John P. Shimkus

DOVER – With great sadness, we announce the passing of John Paul Shimkus, 65, on April 22, 2026 at his home.  He was a man of endless patience, and loved nothing more than his family.

Born August 16, 1960 to the late Leonard and Joan (Sincavage) Shimkus, John was raised in Mahanoy City. He later moved to York, and worked for 37 years as a cable technician for the same company that began as Cable TV of York.

John was a life-long sports enthusiast; having played football, baseball, basketball, golf and fast pitch softball. He was a decorated PIAA football official, umpire for both baseball and softball, and dedicated youth sports coach and mentor to his children and their peers.

He was a passionate collector of Lionel model trains and proud member of the Train Collectors Association. 

John is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Pattiann (Laudeman) Shimkus and their two children, Gabrielle Haubert and Steven Shimkus; as well as their spouses, Garrett Haubert and Kaytie Shimkus-Arndt (and grandpup, Cannoli Haubert). In addition, four siblings- Barbara Mailey, Bernard Shimkus, Lenore Schell and Suzanne Connely; and numerous treasured in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Following cremation, there will be a celebration of life scheduled at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.
