Joseph E. Barshinger, Jr.
DOVER – Joseph E. Barshinger, Jr., 72, entered into rest at 6:32 p.m. on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Linda K. (Wire) Barshinger. The couple celebrated 52 years of marriage on November 30, 2020.
Born July 22, 1948 in York, Joseph was the son of the late Gladys M. Boyer. He graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1966.
Joe began working at a young age and had a strong work ethic. He retired following over 35 years of service for York Stone/Global Stone where he was a heavy equipment diesel mechanic.
Joe was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Dover. He enjoyed photography and videography immensely, especially that of his family and was always very particular about his work. Joe was an all-around fix it guy who could repair almost anything and always helping others. He loved being outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed family trips to the beach, especially Outer Banks, NC and the mountains in Potter County. Following retirement, Joe took on cooking and loved to barbecue and smoke meats. Above all else, Joe was a devoted and patient husband, father and grandfather who spoiled his family with tremendous love and care.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by two sons, Mark J. Barshinger and wife, Karen of West York and Matthew G. Barshinger and wife, Casey of York; four grandchildren, Caelan, Brandon, Samuel and Olivia; his sister-in-law, Eva Craun and husband, Robert of West York; an aunt, Gloria Boyer; many cousins; and his beloved dog, Murphy.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Joseph’s funeral at 11:30 a.m. and the visitation from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Emig Funeral Home, 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Officiating will be the Rev. Edgar Reed, retired Lutheran pastor.
