Joyce E. Ilgenfritz

YORK – Joyce E. (Miller) Ilgenfritz, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at home.  She was the loving and devoted wife of Morgan E. “Fritz” Ilgenfritz – the love of her life.  The couple celebrated 66 years of marriage on August 3, 2023.

Born June 2, 1936 in York Hospital, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Ruth I. (Martin) Miller.

Joyce graduated from Dover High School in 1954 and from York Hospital School of Nursing in 1957.  She enjoyed a fulfilling career as a nurse for 50 years.  Over those years, she was employed as an industrial nurse for Caterpillar, a maternity nurse for York Hospital, a private duty nurse, an evening supervisor for Colonial Manor Nursing Home, and an office nurse for Hunter Hill Family Practice for 18 years.

Joyce and her husband, Morgan, dedicated their home to the Lord, which was known as “God’s Lighthouse”, having housed over 413 people from 60 different countries over the years.  She loved to travel and visited numerous locations, including Africa, the Philippines, Japan, Korea, and France.

She was a 25-year member of Gideons International Auxiliary and State Convention.  Joyce was also a member of York Alliance Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday school and was recognized as “Mother of the Year”.  She was also a member of the Christian Women’s Club and Women’s Aglow Ministry and Bible Studies.

Along with her husband, Morgan, Joyce’s greatest joys were her children, Shonna A. Ilgenfritz and spouse, Susan R. Newcomer of York, Mark E. Ilgenfritz and wife, Miriam L. of Dornsife, Amy I. Nehlsen and husband, Stephen J. of Fulton, NY and Beth E. Wharton and husband, Jonas P. of York; 22grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren who will all carry on the baton.  She is also survived by four sisters, Constance E. Miller, Shirley A. Warner and Brenda L. Wintermyer, all of Dover and Ruth J. Foust of East Berlin; four brothers, Jack A. Miller of East Berlin, and James E., Charles H. and David P. Miller, all of Dover; and many loving neighbors and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Samuel Nehlsen, and brother, Daniel Miller.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the viewings from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 47 N. Queen St., Dover, and from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at York Alliance Church, 501 Rathton Rd., York, with the funeral to follow.  Burial will take place privately in Mount Rose Cemetery.  Officiating will be Rev.Timothy Shuey and her sons-in-law, Rev. Stephen J. Nehlsen, and Rev. Jonas P. Wharton.
