Kelly E. Gross
DOVER – Kelly E. Gross, 70, went with the Lord Sunday, October 22, 2023 in his home surrounded by family. He was born April 29, 1953 in Dover, the son of Donald and Donna (Shorb) Gross.
Kelly graduated from Dover Area High School, class of 1971, where he lettered in basketball, baseball and soccer.
Following high school, Kelly attended Shippensburg University. After a year, Kelly began work at Slothower Machine Shop where he received his certifications as a machinist. He took his trade to Caterpillar and then Belgium Manufacturing. In 1997, Kelly began working as a rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Lewisberry. He retired after 21 years in 2018.
Kelly served 28 years as a high school and college official for basketball, baseball and soccer. He was a soccer goalie for 40 years and won a medal in the Keystone Olympics. Kelly played softball and basketball for his church and an over 40 league. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing with his father and friends, as well as in a league with his church. Since retiring, Kelly enjoyed playing "sideline" referee at his grandchildren’s softball and basketball games. He also enjoyed collecting matchbox cars.
Kelly is survived by his wife, Linda M. Gross; children, Amy Hennessey and husband, Michael of Dover, Augie Gross and wife, Stacie of Mount Wolf, Brooke Knott and husband, Kenneth of Dover; step-son Michael Epler and wife, Lisa of Dover; father, Donald G. Gross of Dover; 13 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren with one on the way; a sister, Kendra Barringer and husband, Randy of Kingsland, GA; and a brother, Steve Gross and wife, Jean of Dover. He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna (Shorb) Gross.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Kelly’s funeral at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Lighthouse Baptist Church of Greater York, 5005 Carlisle Rd., Dover with viewings at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. Burial will follow in Dover Union Cemetery, Dover. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Sterling Walsh. Arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.
In honor of Kelly’s love for Penn State Football, the family is requesting that those in attendance wear blue and white attire.
