Kenneth E. Altland
YORK – Kenneth E. Altland, 94, entered into rest Thursday, October 5, 2023 at his home. He was the husband of the late Genevieve N. (Livingston) Altland who died March 25, 2015 and to whom he was married for 64 years.
Kenneth was born December 9, 1928 in Dover, PA, the son of the late Claude and Katie (Gross) Altland.
He graduated from Dover High School in 1947 and went to Thompson Business College in York.
On July 21, 1948, Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years, serving onboard the heavy cruiser, U.S.S. Helena (CA75) for three and half years in the Pacific and Korean War.
He worked at Standard Register for eight years and retired January 1, 1992 from Caterpillar after 27 years of service. Kenneth worked at the York Fair selling tickets at the West York gate and numerous York Expo events for 12 years. He was a member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in York, the UAW and Shiloh American Legion Post 791.
Kenneth leaves behind a daughter, Linda Ort and two grandchildren, Wendy Thompson and her husband, Luke and Terry Ort, Jr. and his wife, Danielle. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey, who died on August 22, 2017.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Kenneth’s funeral at 3 p.m. and the viewing from 2 to 3 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover, where veteran’s honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Officiating will be the Rev. Keith Fair, pastor for Faith Formation and Discipleship at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church.
