Ladora Gross Obituary

Ladora S. Gross

DOVER – Ladora S. “Dodie” (Miller) Gross, 89, entered into rest at 1:24 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community in New Oxford. She was the loving wife of Wayne J. Gross, with whom she shared 71 years of marriage, celebrating their anniversary on August 28, 2025.

Born December 16, 1936, in Egypt, PA,  Dodie was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Arlene K. (Frantz) Miller.

Dodie graduated from Dover High School in 1954. She worked as a receptionist for the office of Jod L. Stabley, DMD in Dover and later as an activities coordinator for Country Meadows. She was a devoted member of Dover U.C.C., as well as the Dover Lioness Club and the Order of the Eastern Star, White Rose Chapter #360.

Dodie will be remembered for her beautiful voice and her lifelong love of music. From a young age, she sang in many churches alongside her sister, Sieglinde, sharing their gift with countless congregations. Their harmony remained a meaningful part of her life, and in later years, Dodie continued singing with her sister in the group “Jefferson Connection,” which also included longtime friends, Jack and Carl Strausbaugh.

She enjoyed gardening, antiquing, playing cards with friends and especially cherished the many activities and moments spent with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Dodie is survived by four sons: Daniel W. Gross and his wife, Debra, of Dover; Michael D. Gross and his wife, Kathy, of Hanover; Theodore J. Gross and his wife, Lynne, of Hayes, VA; and Matthew M. Gross and his wife, Joann, of Malverne, NY. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Sieglinde Uffelman of New Oxford and Shonna Meiser of Solomons Island, MD.

Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a service to celebrate Dodie’s life at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Dover U.C.C., 45 W. Canal St., Dover, followed by a time of visitation. Burial will take place privately in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover. Officiating will be Pastor Cam Richesson. Arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.
