Louella M. Deardorff
DOVER – Louella M. Deardorff, 99, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Providence Place in Dover. She was the wife of the late Richard S. “Dick” Deardorff, with whom she shared over 55 years of marriage.
Born September 27, 1921 in York, she was a daughter of the late John Anthony and Virgin C. (Smyser) Roth, Jr.
Louella graduated from West York High School in 1938 and Shippensburg University in 1940. She taught for two years at Nashville School in Jackson Township and later worked at the Naval Ordnance Plant in York. In addition to being a homemaker, Louella also worked as a bookkeeper and a notary public for 40 years.
She had been a Den Mother for Cub Pack #67, Dover and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in York, Dover Lioness Club, Union Fire & Hose Co., #1, Dover and the company’s Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the Dover Ambulance Club. Louella also delivered Meals-on-Wheels with her husband for over 25 years. She enjoyed reading, word searches and playing the piano and organ.
Louella is survived by two sons, Jeryl R. Deardorff and wife, Barbara and John F. Deardorff and wife, Elizabeth, all of Dover; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and five great great granddaughters. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, J. Maurice Roth and three sisters, Anna Lecrone, Evelyn Krebs and Dorothy Coates.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Louella’s funeral at 10 a.m. and the visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church, 2740 Roosevelt Ave., York. Burial will follow in Suburban Memorial Gardens in Dover. Officiating will be her grandson, the Rev. Matthew Deardorff, pastor of Bible Baptist Church in Bethany, MO and her pastor, the Rev. Greg Wahlberg. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is serving her family.
