Margaret Lampkin Obituary

Margaret W. Lampkin

YORK, PA – Margaret W. Lampkin, 76, passed away peacefully at 1:50 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024, at ChristianaCare Hospital in Delaware. She was the beloved wife of the late Malcom M. Lampkin.

Born on April 17, 1948, in Georgetown, South Carolina, Margaret was the daughter of the late George O. and Agnes (Singleton) Washington.

Margaret dedicated over 30 years of service to the Maple Press Company in York.

Margaret was deeply involved in her faith community as a devoted member of Calvary Chapel of York, where she embraced her role as the church’s barista. Her love for people and service was evident as she not only prepared coffee but also created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone who entered. Beyond her role as a barista, Margaret's dedication extended to her active participation in the prayer group, Excel ONE Woman at WELL. Her compassion and kindness were palpable, and she had a unique ability to connect with others on a personal level. People were naturally drawn to her because of her outgoing personality and her genuine willingness to help those in need.

Margaret’s spirit of adventure and growth didn’t stop at church. In her 60s, she took on the challenge of learning to swim—a remarkable feat that reflected her determination to keep growing and trying new things. Her journey didn’t end at the pool; she immersed herself in the vibrant community at the YWCA, joining various fitness and social classes. In these settings, she once again showcased her ability to build lasting friendships, becoming a cherished member of yet another community. Margaret's story is a testament to how she lived her life with openness, love, and an unrelenting desire to serve and uplift others.

Margaret had an insatiable passion for travel, always eager to explore new destinations and immerse herself in the diverse cultures, landscapes, and traditions the world had to offer. Whether it was a far-flung international destination or a charming town close to home, she embraced every adventure with enthusiasm and curiosity. Alongside her love for travel, Margaret had a keen eye for finding "a good bargain." Whether she was hunting for stylish clothing or shopping for groceries, she took pride in her ability to spot deals and stretch a dollar, turning even the simplest errands into a fun challenge.

In addition to her love for travel and savvy shopping, Margaret was an avid supporter of the arts. She relished attending musicals and plays, finding joy and inspiration in live performances. The theater, with its ability to transport her into different stories and experiences, was one of her favorite pastimes. Whether it was a grand Broadway production or a local community play, Margaret found delight in every show, appreciating the artistry, music, and storytelling that brought each performance to life.

She is survived by her two daughters, Pamela D. Lampkin of Chester, PA, and Dana L. Lampkin of York; her cherished granddaughter, Peyton M. Lampkin; along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Singleton Dennison.

Family and friends are invited to attend Margaret’s funeral service at 1 p.m., preceded by a viewing from 12 noon to 1 p.m., on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Calvary Chapel of York, 423 Norway St., York.
