YORK – Margaret L. “Marg” Shaffer, 86, entered into rest on Tuesday evening, April 18, 2023 at her home.  She was the loving wife of Harold E. “Shaf” Shaffer.  The couple celebrated 64 years of wedded bliss on December 20, 2022.

Born May 17, 1936 in Dover, Marg was the daughter of the late Shuman and Alda M. (Smith) Ketterman.

She was a member of the Dover Area High School Class of 1955, where she was a stand-out athlete and member of multiple social clubs. Upon graduation, Marg completed a dental hygiene program and worked as a dental hygienist. She was the matriarch of her four-generation family and was instrumental in the success of the family’s multiple businesses.

Marg was a world traveler, incredibly gracious host, and an avid golfer, amassing 4 holes-in-one in her life. She was a former member of the Honey Run Golf Club and current member of the Outdoor Country Club, where she spent countless hours enjoying time golfing on women’s teams and socializing with lifelong friends. Marg adored the warm weather and escaped the PA winter months in Marco Island, FL. Along with her love of spending time with family, she enjoyed playing cards, flower gardening, country music, reading, cooking, soap operas, decorating for Christmas, getting dressed up and dancing with Shaf, and attending her family’s wide array of sporting events.

In addition to her husband, Marg is survived by her children, Christine S. Reed of York and Robert E. Shaffer and wife, Renee of Dover; four grandchildren, Seth(Codi Zinn) Reed, Chad(Miranda) Reed, Allison(James) Malone and Austin Shaffer; and five great grandchildren, Alexis and Riley Malone, Jacksyn, Dalton and Jordyn Reed.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Miriam Lamparter.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. and Marg’s funeral at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover.  Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover.  Officiating will be the Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier, pastor of Christ UCC in Hanover.
