Melvin E. Gracey, Sr.
DOVER – Melvin E. Gracey, Sr., 73, entered into rest at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Sandra L. (Anderson) Gracey. The couple celebrated 49 years of marriage on December 1, 2022.
Born October 11, 1949 in York, Melvin was a son of the late Robert and Irene (Cox) Gracey, Sr.
He had been employed by Manna Pro Corporation in York and later, Dover Area School District where he was head custodian.
Melvin enjoyed watching NASCAR and had been a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jeff Gordon. He also enjoyed his rides on the golf cart.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Melvin E. Gracey, Jr. and wife, Danielle and Brian L. Gracey, all of Dover; a daughter, Michele A. Smith and husband, Matt of Glen Rock; three grandchildren, Austin, Kelsey and Melanie; three great grandchildren, Lauren, Maxwell and Clayton; several sisters; and a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Daniel S. Gracey.
As per Melvin’s wishes, services will be private, with burial in Salem Union Cemetery in Dover. Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover, is serving his family.
