Michael C. Lauer
DOVER – Michael C. Lauer, 70, entered into rest at 5:14 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at UPMC Harrisburg. He was the loving husband of Julie R. (Lightner) Lauer. The couple celebrated 44 years of marriage on May 17, 2024.
Born December 10, 1953 in York, Mike was a son of the late George H. and Anna Mae (Ritter) Lauer.
He graduated from York High School. Mike retired in 2018 following 35 years of service at Rutter’s Dairy where he was a lead foreman.
He was a baseball umpire for 46 years. Mike had umpired 32 years with PIAA where he was president for 12 years and vice president for 2 years. He was an umpire for the High School World Series in Florida in 1992. In 2009, Mike was an umpire for the Homeplate PIAA Quad 4 Championship in Altoona. He was an umpire for 20 years for the District and State Finals. Mike also had 35 years as an American Legion Umpire and over 30 years as an umpire with the Central League and Susquehanna League. He was the umpire in Chief and Rules Interpreter and assigner for EYC for over 15 years as well.
Mike was an avid golfer and hunter. He was also a lifelong NY Yankees baseball fan and Alabama Crimson Tide football fan – Roll Tide!
In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie M. Zimmerman and husband, Daniel and Amy S. Lauer and fiancé, Shay; his five grandchildren, whom he was so proud to be their pappy: Kenzington, Brogan, Brynlee, Bailee and Camden; two sisters, Priscilla Riley and husband, Frank and Linda Horner; his in-laws, Carol Lightner, Fran Lightner, Cindy Ahrens and Mike Lightner; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Robert Lauer.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mike’s funeral at 11 a.m. and the visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Officiating will be the Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier, pastor of Christ U.C.C. in Jefferson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Nathaniel Melton at UPMC Harrisburg, the staff of CTICU and the special angels that cared for him, Kelly and Kim.
