Nettie Alverta Mitzel
DOVER – Nettie Alverta Mitzel, 95, entered into rest on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Providence Place in Dover. She was the wife of the late James F. Mitzel.
Born November 23, 1924 in Thomasville, Alverta was a daughter of the late Lester M. and Sarah K. (Eyster) Gross.
She graduated from Dover High School. Alverta worked for Fincor and Bendix Co., York before starting Mitzel’s Canvas of Dover.
She was a member of Rohlers Lutheran Church in Dover and the Heritage Senior Center. Alverta enjoyed quilting, fishing, hunting and camping at Indian River, Deleware.
She is survived by two children, Timothy E. Mitzel and wife, Okye “Anna” of Gardners and Victoria M. Mitzel of Spring Grove; two sisters, Erma Dentler and Rosara Harlacher, both of Dover; and two brothers, Mearl Gross of Dover and Ray Gross of York. In addition to her husband and parents, Alverta was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Mitzel; two sisters, her twin, Dorothy Westerhold and Anna Crone; and two brothers, Dean Gross and Clair Gross.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Alverta’s funeral at 1 p.m. and the viewing from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2020 at Emig Funeral Home, 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery. Officiating will be her nephew, John Dentler.
