Philomen J. Salser
DOVER – Philomen J. “Joan” Salser, 94, passed peacefully into eternal rest at 10:14 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022 at her home. She was the wife of the late Clarence C. “Chuck” Salser. They were married 52 years.
Born May 24, 1927 in Little Falls, MN, she was the oldest of seven children to Peter and Helen (Lempke) Oldakowski. Philomen left home at the age of 18 to answer the government’s call to work in Washington DC during World War II.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed playing games, especially Scrabble, coloring and traveling. Philomen always made sure to watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune every evening.
She is survived by seven children, Douglas Salser and wife, Mary Kate, Michael Salser, Kevin Salser and wife, Laurie, Edith McCoy, Denise Combs and husband, Bill, Diane Salser and Julie DeShong; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two brothers, Mark and Maurice Oldakowski. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ervan and Robert Oldakowski and two sisters, Donna Baum and Romona Mack.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Philomen’s viewing from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Emig Funeral Home, 47 N. Queen St., Dover, PA 17315. Following cremation, there will be a funeral mass at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at St. John The Evangelist Church, 8908 Old Branch Ave., Clinton, MD 20735.
