Raymond R. Sunday

DOVER – Raymond R. Sunday, 99, entered into rest at 10:12 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024 at his home.  He was the loving husband of Betty J. (Gettys) Sunday.  The couple celebrated 62 years of marriage in May.

Born November 24, 1924 in Manchester Township, Raymond was a son of the late Washington P. and Nettie (Lau) Sunday.

He retired from Certainteed Roofing and also did roofing on the side in addition to working construction with his brother-in-law.

Raymond was a member of Shiloh American Legion Post 791; West York VFW Post 8951; Viking Athletic Association; Hanover Lodge No. 227 Loyal Order of Moose; 10-X Hunting Club in Potter County; and NRA.  He loved produce gardening, hunting, fishing and baking.

In addition to his wife, Raymond is survived by a daughter, Rene J. Middleton and husband, Shane of Dover; step-daughter-in-law, Doris Crowl of Dover; two grandchildren, Jesse Staner and husband, Brigham and Jeramiah Middleton and wife, Devan; a step-granddaughter, Mandy Heckert and husband, Craig; three great grandchildren, Rylee Staner, Madison and Tillie Middleton; two step-great grandchildren, Logan and Lydia; a sister, Ruthanna Gladfelter of York; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Donald Crowl; twin brother, Charles Sunday and brother, Lester Sunday; and sisters, Arlene Leib and Margaret Shenberger.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Raymond’s funeral at 11 a.m. and the viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover.  Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.  Officiating will be the Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier, pastor of Christ U.C.C. in Jefferson.
