Richard C. Cushioner

YORK – Richard C. Cushioner, 81, entered into rest at 8:52 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at UPMC Memorial in York.  He was the loving husband of Ruth C. (Fisher) Cushioner.  The couple celebrated 59 years of marriage on June 14, 2022.

Born December 4, 1941 in Dover, Richard was a son of the late Ralph C. and Emma R. (Wire) Cushioner.

He graduated from William Penn High School in 1961 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Richard had approximately 38 years of service for ESAB, formerly Alloy Rods.

He attended Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene in York.  Richard enjoyed woodworking, was a “tinkerer” and loved animals.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Bonita A. Cushioner of York; godson, Brad Gosnell of Red Lion; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joan L. Ashbrook.

Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Richard’s Celebration of Life service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023 in the Fellowship Room of SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Kelly Drive, 750 Kelly Drive, York.  Officiating will be SpiriTrust Lutheran Chaplain Aaron Copp and dear friend, Pastor Darrell Hagler.  Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover is serving his family.

The family requests no flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Rescue Inc., 2 Heritage Farm Drive, New Freedom, PA 17349; or Compassion Animal Hospital, 1665 Route 194 North, East Berlin, PA 17316, notating “Angel Fund” on the memo line of the check.
