Robert E. Snelbaker 

DOVER – Robert Eugene Snelbaker, 64, entered into rest at 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at WellSpan York Hospital. 

Born October 11, 1960 in York, he was a son of the late Cletus G. and Ruth E. (Findley) Snelbaker. 

Bob graduated from Dover High School in 1978 and earned an associate’s degree from York Technical Institute and a bachelor's degree from Millersville University. 

He worked as a machinist for D.R.I. Machine and Fab LLC in Hanover and previously for various other machine shops in York County. 

Bob was a member of Madison Avenue Church of the Brethren in York and Shiloh American Legion Post 791.  He was the current president of the York County Umpires Association.  He was heavily involved with PIAA and YAIAA where he was a soccer and basketball referee and a baseball umpire. Bob was a respected official who taught so much more than the game. He was a real champion as an umpire in all the baseball communities where he worked, he was a mentor to many.  Bob also participated in the Central Baseball League, Susquehanna Baseball League and the Old Timers Baseball League. He was previously involved with several bowling and golf leagues.  Bob lived and breathed sports.  In addition to being a referee and umpire, he also coached his boys.  Bob was a great competitor in sports that he loved and an inspiration to so many.

Bob was a loyal, devoted, exceptional father and leader as well as a well-rounded family man.  He is survived by his two sons, Joshua J. Snelbaker and wife, Anna Braun of Dover and Tyler E. Snelbaker of York; four grandchildren, Jay, Arya, Charlotte and Spencer; companion, Lynne Morrison of Hanover; former wife, Cathy A. Baugher Berger of York; a sister, Deborah Hoffman and husband, Guy of York; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Snelbaker. 

Following cremation, there will be a celebration of Bob’s life from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Union Fire & Hose Co. #1- Dover at 30 E. Canal St., Dover.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4250 Crums Mill Road, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17112; Dover Diamond Sports, P.O. Box 13, Dover, PA 17315; or other local youth athletic leagues or programs.
