Obituary

Robert C. Fickes

DOVER – Robert C. Fickes, 95, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Pappus House in York.  He was the loving husband of June L. (Chapman) Fickes.  Robert (Bob) was born October 29, 1926 in Dover, PA.  He was the son of Edward C. and Mary E. (Daron) Fickes.

He graduated from Dover High School in June 1944 and in February of 1945, he entered the armed services, proudly serving in the Philippines and Korea.  Upon his return home, he gained employment with York Ice Company.  After several years, he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and entered the plastering trade.  Bob carried on his own business for 25 years.  He had extraordinary work ethics.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He made many trips to Potter County where he co-owned a hunting camp.  There he had great enjoyment hunting and fishing and just being outdoors.  He loved nature.  Bob had many hobbies, including such things as fly–tying, reloading ammunition for hunting and making game boards.  He also enjoyed playing cards, gardening and having a manicured yard.  He was a 50 year member of the Dover Lions Club.  Bob and June enjoyed bus trips, Hershey Bears Hockey games and the Baltimore Orioles.

Bob was an active life member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Comrades Sunday School class.  He served on council and various committees.
Besides his wife, June, he leaves a daughter Barbara D. Enterline (husband, John); son-in-law, Edward L. Ritter; grandchildren, David A. Ritter (wife, Elizabeth), Andrea Dennis (husband, Patrick), Matthew Enterline (wife, Damaris); seven great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed tremendously.  He was dependable, fair, caring and loving.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother, Gerald, and his precious daughter, Vicki Ritter.

His service in celebration of his life will be on Saturday, December 11, 2021 with his pastor, the Rev. Abby Leese officiating.  A time of receiving friends and relatives will start at 1 p.m. with the service starting at 2 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 9 N.
