Despite playing only 6 games in his senior season, he was awarded both United Press and Associated Press "All-State" Honorable Mention honors. Bob was also an outstanding track & field athlete and is remembered for his strong kick on the second half of the 440-yard run, numerous medals in the pole vault, 440-yard dash, and mile relay events. He ran in the vaunted Penn Relays in Philadelphia. After high school, Bob enlisted in the Navy and played for both the Norfolk Tars and Bainbridge Commodores service teams.
