DOVER - Robert Joseph Scutta, 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at his residence in Beaufort, SC.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022 in the lobby of St. Rose of Lima Church, 950 W. Market St., York, followed by Mass at 11 a.m.  Officiating will be Father Dominic Azagbor, OP.

Robert was born on August 10, 1938, in Coaldale, PA, the son of the late Robert Bernard and Vera Rose (Hoben) Scutta. He graduated from Coaldale High School in 1956. He married Patricia Ann Aronne on February 8th, 1964 in Coaldale. The couple moved to York, PA, and then resided in Dover, PA for the next 57 years.

Bob was a Pennsylvania State Trooper for 27 years. After “retirement”, he worked as an investigator for Kufta Associates and then as a Sergeant for the York County Sheriff's Department.

Those who remember Bob from Coaldale might recall that he was a starting quarterback for the Coaldale Tigers in both the 1954 & 1955 seasons. His high school football career ended in his senior year in the 7th game when he suffered a broken leg.  Despite playing only 6 games in his senior season, he was awarded both United Press and Associated Press "All-State" Honorable Mention honors. Bob was also an outstanding track & field athlete and is remembered for his strong kick on the second half of the 440-yard run, numerous medals in the pole vault, 440-yard dash, and mile relay events. He ran in the vaunted Penn Relays in Philadelphia. After high school, Bob enlisted in the Navy and played for both the Norfolk Tars and Bainbridge Commodores service teams. He was inducted into the Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame.

Bob enjoyed sports, photography, helping others, and spending time with family and friends.

Robert Scutta is survived by his wife: Patricia Ann Scutta; his brother: William Scutta and wife Loretta and their family; children: Robert T. Scutta and wife Cathy, Brian D. Scutta and wife Lonnie, Jami Lynn Arnold and her husband Daniel; grandchildren: Olivia Scutta, Grace Scutta, Madaline Scutta, Cody Scutta and wife Kyrsten, Brianne Bream and husband Justin, Colby Barnes & husband Nate, Quinn Arnold, Jonah Arnold, and Elias Arnold; and great-grandchildren: Ada Bream, Lincoln Barnes, and Jaxson Barnes.

The family asks that you consider donations to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 and the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131 in lieu of flowers.
