Robert Zurko Obituary

Our beloved Bob passed away Sunday, February 9, surrounded by his family.

Bob was the son of the late George and Helen (Yanek) of Throop, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elaine (Ostrowski), sons Mark, Matthew and Robert, his sister Monica Schearer, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his brother, George, in December 2024, and by his infant son, Luke, in 1965.

Born in Peckville, Pennsylvania, Bob proudly served in the US Coast Guard from 1954 to 1958. In 1961 he married the love of his life, Elaine, whom he called "Tweety".  With their three sons and some borrowed equipment, Bob and Elaine quickly fell in love with camping, with their favorite place being Pine Grove Furnace State Park in Gardners, Pennsylvania. The family also enjoyed hiking and backpacking, particularly on the Appalachian Trail.

An avid crossword puzzle enthusiast and reader, Elaine joked that Bob was "born with a book in his hands". He was a talented wood worker, building furniture, clocks, bird houses and children's toys. Bob loved God. He was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic church, where he faithfully participated in the Adoration of Christ on Tuesday evenings.

His funeral mass will be held at St. Rose, 950 West Market Street, York, Pennsylvania on Thursday, February 13, at 10am. Those wishing to send flowers can do so directly to the church (local suggestion Schaefer Flowers). Following at 12pm will be a luncheon at Hoss's Steak and Sea House, 2175 White Street, for those who would like to share stories and memories.

We love you, Bob, and will miss you so much. Thank you for all the joy you added to the lives of the people who knew you.
