Ruth A. Cassell

DOVER – Ruth Arlene Cassell (Lartz), 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, March 14, 2022.  The loving wife for 68 wonderful years of Walter L. Cassell, Jr., she will be greatly missed. 

Born November 24, 1937 in York, PA, she was the daughter of the late Claude B. and Ruth S. Lartz, Sr.

Ruth started and ended her career in the medical and human services field.  Helping others was in her blood.  She was the Unit Secretary of the Emergency Departments at York and Memorial Hospitals.  She was a certified EMT serving on the Medic Unit for the York Hospital as well as being an Ambulance Driver.  She turned over those reigns later in life continuing her need to help others as a dispatcher for the former White Rose Ambulance.

In her free time, she loved listening to Elvis, playing BINGO, reading and traveling around the world.  You could never catch her without her jewelry and bright smile or silly posed faces with her famous lipstick.  She loved nothing more than her title of “Grandma” and “Meemom”. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and additionally the pleasure of enjoying her great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Walter, Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Marilyn J. Cassell(Deb) of York, Vicki A. Kepner(David) of Dover and Brenda L. Buhrman(Randy Sr.) of Dover.  Her grandchildren, Randy Buhrman, Jr.(Faith), Holly Matthews(Eric), Lisa Biller(Gib) and Michelle Mundt(Hans). She had the grand pleasure of meeting and enjoying her eight great grandchildren as well.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Claude B. Lartz, Jr. and a granddaughter, Jennifer L. Kepner.

Friends and family are invited to attend Ruth’s viewing Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11 a.m. to 12 noon followed by her funeral at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover, PA 17315.  Burial to follow at St. John’s Reformed Cemetery in Dover.
