Shirley A. Hite
YORK – Shirley Ann Hite, 79, entered into rest at 8:11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Yorkview Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was the loving wife of Steven A. Hite. The couple celebrated 49 years of marriage on December 12, 2024.
Born September 30, 1946 in York, Shirley was a daughter of the late Dale Sylvester and Dorothy (Hoffman) Coble.
She graduated from Dover High School in 1964 and earned her bachelor's degree from Millersville University and master’s degree from Shippensburg University. Shirley was a teacher at Dover Elementary School for 30 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Wendy A. Hite; twin grandchildren by Wendy’s first husband, Nathan and Allyson Wisotzkey; and brother, Brian Coble of Dover. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dale S. “Smoke” Coble, Jr.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Shirley’s funeral at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen Street, Dover. The viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Red Run Cemetery, East Berlin. Officiating will be the Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier, pastor of Christ UCC in Jefferson.
