Shirley A. (Wolgamuth) Hutchins

September 10, 1935 ~ July 14, 2023 (age 87) 87 Years Old

DOVER – Shirley A. Hutchins, 87, entered into rest at 4:15 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023 at her home.  She was the wife of the late Harold E. “Hutch” Hutchins.

Born September 10, 1935 in Warrington Township, Shirley was a daughter the late George A. and Helen M. (Drawbaugh) Wolgamuth.

She graduated from Manchester High School in 1953 and retired in 1995 from York City Hall where she was an administrative assistant.

Shirley was a longtime member of Salem U.C.C. where she taught Sunday school, bible school and was a member of the women’s guild and choir.  She later attended Dover U.C.C. where she also taught Sunday school and was a member of women’s guild, choir and was a church representative of the Homewood Auxiliary.  Shirley was also a member of Union Fire & Hose Co. #1, Dover, Ladies Auxiliary.  She volunteered at Weigelstown Elementary School library for a number of years.

She loved to read, sing, make Stampin' Up! papercrafts, do puzzles and was an excellent cook and baker.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Pamela S. Emig and husband, Terry of Dover; two grandsons, David E. Emig and wife, Amanda and Jon E. Emig and fiancée, Breanna Ball; three great grandchildren, Libby, Layla and Logan; three sisters, Mae Myers of York, Faye Sheffer of Dover and Sara Eisenhart of Thomasville; a brother, Jan Wolgamuth of York; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald E. Hutchins; granddaughter, Emily Jo Emig; two sisters; and five brothers.

Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the service to celebrate Shirley’s life at 11 a.m. and the visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Salem U.C.C., 2705 W. Canal Rd., Dover.  Officiating will be the Rev. Gary Stefanski.  Interment will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emily Jo Emig Music Scholarship Fund, 1075 E. Canal Rd., Dover, PA 17315; or Union Fire & Hose Co. #1 Ladies Auxiliary, 30 E. Canal St., Dover, PA 17315.
