DOVER – Steven G. “Smitty” Smith, 68, entered into rest at 9:09 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at his home. He was the treasured husband of Lori, enjoying 20 years of marriage on August 23, 2023, proud father of two sons, Shannon Smith and wife, Sherry of Dover and Kyle Smith and wife, Tabatha of York; beaming grandfather of Richard "Richie" G. Smith; and supportive brother to three siblings, Michael Smith and wife, Marie, of York, Cheryl Korte, and David Smith, both of Philadelphia; niece, Vanessa; nephew, Nick; and great nephews, Logan and Danny.
Born March 22, 1955 in Camp Gordon, Georgia, Steven was a son of the late Richard G. and Doris J. (Smith) Smith.
He graduated from West York High School in 1973, eventually working many years as a welder, and was a member of United Steel Workers Local 7687 for 37 years.
Steve was a handyman and enjoyed woodworking, fast cars, and video games. If it broke, he likely could fix it! Always generous with his time, he helped everyone who asked; family, friend, stranger, if he could fix or build something to make their situation better, he did. He enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers from time to time (the people-owned team) and loved his cats, Zenobia and Buick, dearly. He hoped all his pets from his life would be waiting for him on the other side when he got there. Treats for everyone!
Steve's wishes were no services. He wants others to remember him by doing an act of kindness for others on a regular basis, hug your loved ones and tell them how much they mean to you, and plant a tree or two when you have the chance.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., Dover.
Memorial contributions may be made to York County S.P.C.A., 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406 or to WITF, Inc (https://donate.witf.org/witf/tribute).
We all will be together again on the other side of the rainbow bridge.
