Tammy J.
(Beck) Melhorn
Jun 22, 1965 — Sep 3, 2026
Dover
DOVER- Tammy Jolene Melhorn, 61, made her way to Heaven on September 3, 2026. Born June 22, 1965, in York, PA, Tammy was the beloved daughter of the late Gale Y. (Sharp) Beck and William R. Beck Sr. She graduated from Dover Area High School and married Shawn M. Melhorn on May 12, 1990. Together, they built a life and raised a family that remained at the center of Tammy's world for more than 35 years. Tammy spent much of her life taking care of the people she loved. If you were one of her people, she wanted you to be taken care of, comfortable, and fed - and don't make her ask you if you're hungry twice. Making the people she loved happy was one of the ways she showed her love. She was creative and crafty, and an excellent cook. Over the years, Tammy stacked up more than a few highly requested "secret" recipes, which she always refused to share. Her macaroni and cheese were the most famous of them all. She seemed to enjoy both the compliments and the fact that no one else could quite recreate it. Nicknamed "Speck," she may have been small in stature but never in personality, Tammy was a sassy spitfire who was fond of reminding everyone that "dynamite comes in small packages." Anyone who knew her knew she was right. Her happiest place was the beach. She loved scary movies, Stephen King books, and curling up in her chair to binge a good drama or crime series. But one of the greatest joys of her life was being a grandmother. She adored her grandsons, Zeek and Lucas, and shared a special bond with them.
Tammy is survived by her three children, Samantha Melhorn, Megan Melhorn, and Shane Melhorn; her beloved grandsons, Zeek and Lucas; her brother, William R. Beck Jr. and his wife, Tammy (Rouscher) Beck; and the family and friends who were fortunate enough to be loved—and very well taken care of—by her. Along with her parents and husband, Tammy was preceded in death by her beloved bulldog, Watson. Watson was loved like a fourth child and, depending on which of her actual children you asked, possibly ranked ahead of all three.
Tammy will be remembered for her fire, her cooking, her fierce love for her family, and the countless ways she took care of the people around her. She leaves behind secret recipes we may never successfully recreate, memories that will make us laugh even when we miss her terribly, and a family that will forever know what it felt like to be loved by her.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Tammy's visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 47 North Queen Street, Dover, PA. Her service will begin at 2:00 PM. Wednesday at the funeral home. Her burial will be private.
