DOVER - Thelma R. Shearer, 89, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Providence Place of Dover.  She was the wife of Niles H. Shearer.
    Thelma was born in Conewago Township on April 30, 1932, a daughter of the late Robert L. Crone and Mabel (Reever) Crone.
    Thelma was a faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church of Dover for most of her life.  She and Niles owned and operated a working farm in Dover Township for nearly sixty years.  She especially enjoyed cooking and baking for the holidays and gladly shared her special recipes with both family and friends.
    In addition to her husband of seventy years, Thelma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Barry Emig, and her son and daughter-in-law, Crist and Joyce Shearer. She also leaves her four grandsons, Matthew and Timothy Emig, and their wives, Cheryl and Meghan, as well as Andrew and Jordan Shearer, and their wives Brittney and Megan.  She is survived by her great-grandchildren Katherine, Jacob, Molly, Gracie, and Kaylee.
    Additionally, Thelma leaves her brother, Leroy Crone of Dover, and her sisters, June Sunday of York and Evelyn Schaeffer of Dover. She is also survived by twenty-one nieces and nephews. Her sisters, Pauline Haugh and Ethel Senft, preceded her in death.
    Because of the present health concerns, Thelma will be laid to rest during a short graveside service to be held on Friday, December 31, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Salem Union Cemetery, West Canal Road in Dover.  Those in attendance are requested to wear masks and social distance. Relatives and friends will also be respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service to be held at a later date.  Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Donna Christopher.
    The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Providence Place and Lifesong Hospice for the caring, loving kindness shown to Thelma and to all of us during her years in assisted living. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, 2001 George Street, Dover, PA 17315.  Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc. is assisting with arrangements.
