Born December 18, 1949 in Manocalzati, Italy, Steve was a son of the late Raffaele and Concetta (Troisi) DeBenedictis.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his time in the military, he played professional soccer in Switzerland and also played in a York Indoor League years ago.
Steve owned Skytop Pizza in Dover. He was a fantastic cook - you name it and he would make it.
He enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales, and traveling to the beach where he loved to go fishing and crabbing. Steve visited many countries over the years and traveled through the US as well. He loved to share his life experiences with his grandchildren. It was often said Pappy knows everything. Steve enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. He was a great husband and father. Most of all, he was the BEST pappy - he absolutely loved his grandkids! He was also a loyal friend.
In addition to his wife, Claudia, Steve is survived by two daughters, Amy Hennessey and husband, Michael and Brooke Knott and husband, Kenny, all of Dover; a son, Augie Gross and wife, Stacie of Manchester; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Patrizio DeBenedictis of Italy; and his beloved four-legged girls. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Giuseppina DeBenedictis and a brother, Luigi DeBenedictis.
Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Steve’s memorial service at 2 p.m. and the visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2021 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N.
