William K. “Bill” Kimmel

DOVER – William K. “Bill” Kimmel, 79, entered into rest Monday afternoon, June 29, 2026 at Normandie Ridge from respiratory complications.  He was the loving husband of Karen L. (Taylor) Kimmel.  The couple celebrated 58 years of marriage on February 17, 2026.

Born January 26, 1947 in Bellefonte, he was a son of the late Leonard D. and Mildred (Ahlborn) Kimmel.

Bill graduated from Dover Area High School in 1965 and attended York College.  He entered the U.S. Army in 1967, serving as a Counter Intelligence Special Agent with the 111th Military Intelligence Group, U.S. Army Military Command.  Bill was honorably discharged in 1970 and went on to earn a B.S. in Education from Penn State.  He was employed by the Small Business Administration as a flood damage investigator and later sold real estate for Ed Saxe Realty in York.  He then worked as a deputy security officer for New Cumberland Army Depot and Letterkenny Army Depot.  Most notably, Bill was the owner, operator and president of Weather Shield, Inc., an energy solutions company, for over 40 years.

Bill was elected to the Dover Township Board of Supervisors in 1991 and in 1993, became Chairman of the Board, as well as Dover Township Commissioner to NYCRP.   

He and his wife raised and showed Irish Setters for 40 years and won Best of Breed at the 1st Irish Setter National Specialty in addition to finishing American and Canadian Champions.  Bill held various offices with the Lower Susquehanna Irish Setter Club and the Lower Susquehanna Owner Handlers Association of America.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and life member of the NRA who also raised beef cattle.  Bill enjoyed boating with his wife on the Chesapeake Bay, Susquehanna River and in Ocean City, MD over the last 20 years. 

In addition to his wife, Karen, Bill is survived by four children, Beth Gliksman and husband, David, Ben Kimmel and wife, Denise, Briana Seitz and husband, Mitch and Rebekka Swift and husband, Shane; eight grandchildren, Aaron and wife, Karen, Brett, Brendan, Jacob, Amanda, Joshua, Diesel and Hunter; two great grandchildren, Kade and Kiah; a sister, Jane Brown and husband, Jim; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend William’s funeral at 11 a.m. and the viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover.   Veteran’s honors will be presented by the York County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
